چکیده

Activin A (ActA)/follistatin (FST) signaling has been shown to be deregulated in different tumor types including lung adenocarcinoma (LADC). Here, we report that serum ActA protein levels are significantly elevated in LADC patients (n=64) as compared to controls (n=46, p=0.015). ActA levels also correlated with more advanced disease stage (p<0.0001) and T (p=0.0035) and N (p=0.0002) factors. M1 patients had significantly higher ActA levels than M0 patients (p<0.001). High serum ActA level was associated with poor overall survival (p<0.0001) and was confirmed as an independent prognostic factor (p=0.004). Serum FST levels were increased only in female LADC patients (vs. female controls, p=0.031). Two out of five LADC cell lines secreted biologically active ActA, while FST was produced in all of them. Transcripts of both type I and II ActA receptors were detected in all five LADC cell lines. In conclusion, our study does not only suggest that measuring blood ActA levels in LADC patients might improve the prediction of prognosis, but also indicates that this parameter might be a novel non-invasive biomarker for identifying LADC patients with organ metastases.

Gene Regulation Network Based Analysis Associated with TGF-beta Stimulation in Lung Adenocarcinoma Cells

Background: Transforming growth factor (TGF)-β is over-expressed in a wide variety of cancers such as lung adenocarcinoma. TGF-β plays a major role in cancer progression through regulating cancer cell proliferation and remodeling of the tumor micro-environment. However, it is still a great challenge to explain the phenotypic effects caused by TGF-β stimulation and the effect of TGF-β stimulatio...

SOX5 predicts poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma and promotes tumor metastasis through epithelial-mesenchymal transition

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) promotes lung cancer progression and metastasis, especially in lung adenocarcinoma. Sex determining region Y-box protein 5 (SOX5) is known to stimulate the progression of various cancers. Here, we used immunohistochemical analysis to reveal that SOX5 levels were increased in 90 lung adeno...

Case Report Of Lymphangitic Carcinomatosis Secondary To Lung Adenocarcinoma

Pulmonary lymphangitic carcinomatosis is the spread of a tumor to the lungs through the lymphatic system, which is a rare and final manifestation of cancer with a poor prognosis. Its main symptom is gradual and progressive dyspnea. The method of choice for diagnosis is high-resolution CT (HRCT), the most common finding of which is an increase in nodular and irregular septal thickness between th...

CDCA2 promotes lung adenocarcinoma cell proliferation and predicts poor survival in lung adenocarcinoma patients

Cell division cycle associated 2(CDCA2) is overexpressed in neuroblastoma and oral squamous cell carcinoma, and its overexpression positively correlates to tumor progression. However, the biological and clinical significance of CDCA2 in lung adenocarcinoma(LAC) has never been investigated. We determined the expression profile and clinical significance of CDCA2 using The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA...

Linc00152 promotes Cancer Cell Proliferation and Invasion and Predicts Poor Prognosis in Lung adenocarcinoma

Background: The long non-coding RNA Linc00152 stimulates tumor progression in cancer. However, its clinical significance and biological functions in lung adenocarcinoma remains unknown. We evaluate the expression of Linc00152 in lung adenocarcinoma and its possible correlation with clinicopathologic features and patient survival to reveal its biological effects in cancer progression and prognos...
